This week our conditions could not have been better. With the calm winds and boastful sunshine, our guests were able to experience the best of Astove. We started the week with spring tides, which allowed the group to search and explore every angle the atoll has to offer. During a spring tide week anglers are able to venture into the lagoon for full days, giving the opportunity to target the elusive permit as well as the hidden gem, the Giant Trevally.
 

After the Christmas festive season break and some great weather we were all pretty excited to see what the Astove fishery had in store for us. It couldn’t have started any better with Daryl Ewer catching a gorgeous moustache trigger on his first cast of the trip and later followed up with a great yellow-margin. 

The first week of the second half of the Cosmoledo 2017/2018 season kicked off with a bang! The two months of rest clearly showed on the atoll with the new arrivals having countless shots at flats cruising GT’s throughout the week. The crystal clear water and absolute glass-off conditions made for some very hot and sometimes challenging fishing for the anglers aboard the mothership Lone Star

After a long stretch of inclement weather the clouds parted and the winds seized giving way to absolute glassy and downright hot conditions. This week tides started with the tapering of neap to spring with a midday low enabling anglers to fish equal drop and push. The abundance of bait both inside and out made for great GT fishing and more fish were seen in the lagoon than in recent weeks.

Extreme weather with strong winds and heavy rain started the week but the situation calmed quickly as the tides shifted to neap, giving way to some of the most favorable fishing conditions experienced in quite some time

Anglers were met with extreme conditions this week as the waxing to full moon coalesced the spring tides. Most mornings started dismally as the strong north winds, black clouds and rain squalls collided with the atoll, however miraculously those conditions calmed during fishing hours giving way to sunshine and a distant view of the storm.

Home of many 20-pounders, the Sog River is recognized as one of the finest Atlantic salmon rivers in Iceland. Sog is the largest spring fed river in Iceland and is renowned for its amazing birdlife, beautiful surroundings and high percentage of multi-sea-winter salmon. Sog is all private water and has six salmon beats and a total of 13 rods. The salmon season is from late Jun to late September.
