At the half way point of the Alphonse Island 2016-17 season, one very important thing to notice is the remarkable consistency of the fishing. Certain weeks ebb and flow in favor of different species but the bottom line is that this fishery still maintains some of the most incredible saltwater fly fishing available anywhere. AFC flats guides are fortunate to be exposed to one of the world’s most pristine saltwater environments every single day. However they are all fishermen at heart and still get excited when they see clouds of bonefish on beautiful white sand, tailing triggers or charging GTs. The adrenaline rushes are endless and they are what keep the AFC guides going throughout a long season.

We had the pleasure of 10 repeat clients and a one new friend visting us this week.

197 fish were landed this week with 55 over 15 pounds and 9 over 20 pounds.

David Bowden was the top rod with 39 fish netted. Sasha Savic landed 35.

Jay Deeds landed a 28.5 pounder fresh female the last morning in Lonius pool.

Top rod of the week was Karen Reeve with 26 fish to the net, the biggest 22 pounds.

Richard miller landed the biggest fish of the week a 25 pound male.

We had good captures on the top; fish to 17 pounds.

Water Conditions:
Very clear water all week.
Water temperature: 7? - 13? Celsius (44? - 55? Fahrenheit)
Water level: dropping fast, lower than ever.
 

Another Week just ended and the fishing was a bit slower with 88 fish landed of which 23 were over 15 pounds and two over 20 pounds. Average weight of sea-trout landed was 12 pounds

t’s the end of week number two here at Estancia Maria Behety Lodge.  We had some very good friends visiting us here this week. Fishing was good some days and tough some others. We had some great weather. The river level is excellent.

Another week at La Villa just ended.

We again experienced wonderful fishing, a great average size of fish and good weather. We had a very good and fun group of anglers this week.

Often a new year begins with plans and expectations of great things. For the Alphonse Fishing Co. team this attitude is nothing new, this is how we feel about the fishing going into every new week. 2016 was full of fish and loads of unbelievable stories. 2017 is definitely promising to be the same and even better, with big projects on the horizon the team is full of excitement.

The final week of the year on Alphonse Island proved to be memorable as always. The lodge was full to capacity with fishermen and their families enjoying the festive cheer. Santa Claus was able to find his way to this very remote atoll to the delight of all the children present. Unfortunately, the seasonal rains arrived just at the wrong time and Christmas day was a wash out. This didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits though and everyone had a great day.
