The fishing for week number 9 was good, despite the challenging weather and river conditions. We landed 82 fish, 30 of which were over 15 pounds and 6 over 20 pounds. The average weight was 12.5 pounds, another great average – typical for the season.
We just ended week 5 on the Rio Grande here at the Estacncia Maria Behety Lodge. We had tough fishing, with some some really good sessions and some very slow ones. We had lots of weather changes during the week with west wind some days, east wind, south wind on Thursday and Friday and a lot of rain.
The fishing was good this week, despite the dirty and high water had. A combination of tube flies and sinking lines were the weapons of choice this week. We landed 91 fish of which 25 were over 15 pounds and 4 over 20 pounds. Average weight was 11.8 pounds.
This week’s group of anglers left with many treasured memories, photos of trophy fish but also with line cuts and broken rods casting a light on tales that might have been. It has been another rollercoaster of a week with both the flats and the bluewater fishing producing some fantastic results. Unfortunately, the bad weather system from last week hung around causing some delays on the first day. However, the guests were not deterred and got stuck straight into the fishing at their first opportunity.
This week saw some of the worst weather we have seen throughout the season but despite a few setbacks there were some great results from both the flats and bluewater expeditions with everyone persevering in spite of tough conditions. The team of anglers mostly comprised of returning guests and avid saltwater fly fishermen looking to target the more challenging and elusive species the flats have to offer.
The 17th week of the 2016 - 17 season has just come to an end which marks the beginning of the second half of the Alphonse season. It has truly been a week to remember with some unforgettable fishing experiences. The sheer diversity and beauty of the atoll is only rivaled by its unpredictability.
