Perfect triggerfish tides, hungry bonefish and returning seasoned anglers set the tone for a great week. Our group from the United Kingdom brought their A-game and managed to catch 475 bonefish in six days with the biggest estimated at 7.5lbs. The GTs were around and on the prowl with daily encounters resulting in five being landed. Tim Aldiss managed the largest specimen measuring 94cm after a fly change and 6 casts, finally convincing this fish to take the fly.

Perfect weather conditions and crystal clear waters met the change over day as we welcomed our new guests to Cosmoledo. The week kicked off with some nice flats caught GT’s but as the week migrated into neap tides they became scarce, redirecting the teams to catch all the other species that Cosmoledo has to offer. Bart Jenkins stole the show by landing a fish of a lifetime when a 72cm Indo-Pacific permit ate his Alphlexo crab. A few GT’s later and he had completed an impressive “Grand Slam”.

It’s always a pleasure sharing the water with return fisherman, but even better making new friends on the water. Challenging conditions and low light made it difficult to reach every goal, but with such a diverse fishery, and a group of eight-experienced fisherman the results spoke for themselves.

Week 4 started off with some spectacular post card conditions of slight winds and glassy seas, as long time friends reunited for their 20th annual trout rodeo meet. One thing that was very clear was this was sure to be a great week.

As the Alphonse Fishing Co. team settles back into trusty patterns of area management around tidal changes, the fish tally becomes more and more impressive, leading to predictions of another bumper season out on St. Francois atoll

With a full complement of guests raring to go fish the pristine flats of St Francois lagoon and some favorable weather conditions, the stage was set for some giant battles and tall tales.  The incredible bonefishing continued to with 350 landed, even though there was more effort placed on all the other species on offer.

Despite the end of the fishing season in sight, St Francois, Bijoutier and Alphonse continue to produce incredible catches on a daily basis with numbers of certain species increasing with the change in season. The South-Easterly winds have now begun to increase, changing currents and bringing with it some cooler water, which livens up the flats.
